2011 Knitters in the Green Mountains
Announcing Our 21st Annual
Knitters in the Green Mountains
October 28 – 30, 2011
Our featured teacher is designer Fiona Ellis, who has been designing professionally since 1993, after graduating from DeMontfort University (England) with a degree in fashion knitwear design. Her work is much sought after, with sustained exposure in leading magazine publications such as Vogue Knitting and Interweave Knits, online at TwistCollective.com and in yarn pattern booklets. Demand increases for her original concepts by major fashion houses in London, Paris and New York, and growing requests for personal appearances and workshop instruction at international conferences and guilds.
She is the author of Inspired Cable Knits, Knitspiration Journal and Inspired Fair Isle Knits, and the designer of two of our favorite Twist Collective patterns knit in Green Mountain Spinnery yarn (click on pictures to see Gwendolyn and Harriet patterns.)
Fiona will be teaching the following workshops:
TWISTING WITH THE CABLE GIRL
Fiona would like to teach the whole world how to knit cables because she LOVES the technique! In this workshop she will show you how to twist in a number of different ways, how to read charts and how to add cables to simple projects for stunning details. This workshop is a must for newer knitters who love the look of texture, or knitters who need a refresher with a twist.
CREATING WITH CABLES (part I)
Fiona is famous for her morphing cables….cables that change and become other patterns. In this workshop she will provide images to jump start your creative ideas and show you the basic principles of how to get started designing your own cables. If you love cables but find working vertical patterns too repetitive and want to heighten the challenge, this workshop is a must! Even if you are not an advanced cable knitter you will learn a lot about how cables work through this exercise. WARNING: This workshop may change the way you see the world!
CREATING WITH CABLES (part II)
Drawing on the work done in part I, Fiona will show you how to fine-tune an idea or to create a series of designs from one idea. She will also look more closely at the technical aspects of how to transcribe your idea into a project by looking at chart writing and forensic examination of your swatch. She will also cover how to approach designing Celtic Knot Cables – a design element that Fiona is including more and more in her own design work. We hope you will join us!
