The “Crap Dip” Sweater

| Project Inspiration

Crab Dip SweaterOur Ravelry friend Laura, happened to be in our booth when the “crabby trio” above arrived for show and tell. She was so delighted by their tops that she decided to cast on for one of her own. Maryland is known for its blue crabs, after all.

She found Whitney Terrell‘s Crab Dip pattern on Ravelry and figured out her yardage requirements without delay! She purchased the Cotton Comfort she needed on the spot. Laura used Unbleached White as her main color, Denim for her crabs and Weathered Green for her fishes and waves.

Yes, that’s right! She modified the pattern so that her hem and sleeves include a subtle wave motif. Such a great detail. You can find her project details, here: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/LHinders/crab-dip

Her modification may inspire you and a few friends to head out for a seafood dinner, a trip to Maryland to enjoy some delicious crab, or to cast on for some knitted fun that you can enjoy when the weather is a bit less warm than it has been for much of the country this week.

The “Crap Dip” Sweater is worked up as a gender neutral sweatshirt-style sweater. It is knit from the top down, with some short row shaping to raise the back of the neck for comfort. This pattern has a medium difficulty because of the yoke chart. The pattern develops slowly and is not repetitive, making it a slightly more complicated knit.

Whitney’s pattern includes a size inclusive range from 38(42, 46, 50, 54, 58){62, 66, 70, 74}, with recommendation of 4 – 10” of positive ease — meaning that you’ll want to select the size that is 4-10 inches larger than your bust measurement.

Yardage requirements are 6 (7, 9, 10, 10, 11){12, 13, 14, 15} skeins of Cotton Comfort for your main color, 1 skein for your fish (you may want to get 2 if you like the idea of adding waves) and 2 -3 skeins for your crabs. Choose the Denim color if you are thinking of the variety indigenous to Maryland, and Salmon if you’d prefer to wear your crabs cooked!
