Twice a year we offer our unwashed odd weight skeins for sale with deep discounts. This May we have a great selection of many different GMS yarns on offer!
Odd weight skeins are top quality and with the same yardage, but the yarn is a bit lighter or heavier than the specifications set for our regular weight skeins. When we fill orders for any particular color, the skeins will be either all heavies or all lights.
These skeins will “bloom” to softness if gently hand washed before knitting. Easy washing instructions are included with your order.
In order to offer these skeins on a first come first served basis to all of our friends near and far, these SALE yarns are only available through our website. If you live near the Mill, select Local Pick Up as your shipping method and we’ll call you when your yarn is ready for you to gather.

Our most popular yarn is our Mountain Mohair. Its woolen spun, single-ply structure can create a bit of magic on the needles. The looser the gauge, the softer and drapey-er the fabric becomes! The soft halo provided by the Mohair blended in each skein protects your finished goods from the physical abrasion that can cause pilling. It is perfect for sweaters of all kinds. The range of heavy and light skeins will give you options for a myriad of different patterns calling for between 14 – 20 sts over 4 inches.
Sylvan Spirit is a terrific DK weight single ply yarn that blends Wool with TENCEL (a manmade material derived from wood pulp) that adds luster and wonderful drape. It works beautifully for textured designs like the Field Sweater designed by Camilla Vad, or those that call for lots of positive ease like the Eva Cardigan designed by PetiteKnit.
Our Odd weight Weekend Wool selection is all heavier skeins, so these are going to knit up at closer to an Aran gauge. For looser knitters, you could substitute this yarn and finally make gauge for worsted patterns and for average and tighter knitters, it could be a perfect choice for Caitlin Hunter’s new Halibut Cardigan! We love the deep sea range of colors on offer!
Plus, you’ll find a terrific selection of shades of Alpaca Elegance, our favorite yarn for snuggly soft knits of all kinds. Our 50/50 blend of wool and alpaca offers the structure and elasticity of wool and the dreamy softness of alpaca so your finished project will not grow past recognition when you finally wear it. Our current selection of odd weight Alpaca Elegance is all lighter than normal, so you may find that you can use it for patterns calling for sport weight yarns.
Who can resist working with our Cotton Comfort!? We love it for warmer weather knits, and for garments for kiddos. Kate just finished making a summer weight Linorum Tee by Bristol Ivy. It’s soft hand is a joy to knit with and can work beautifully for next to skin wear. Kate cast on for another project using two contrasting colors for a beachy version of the BABA Sweater by ANKESTRiCK. She hopes to have it finished by the 4th of July.
